Life on Earth changes time and again due to the atmospheric conditions of our beloved planet. In order to survive all inhabitants, adapt to changes. Biotechnology serves to explain evolution, adaption, survival, and existence. Biology is the study of life and technology is the product of innovation. When both these fields collide with each other we get a well, documented analysis of the world around us.
Biotechnology at its core involves the fusion of cellular and biomolecular processes to develop technologies that enhance the quality of life on Earth. It uses biological systems to make, modify, or alter products for specific purposes. Biotech has been used to improve agriculture, boost food supplies, and fortify healthcare systems. However, its significance lies in genetics and research. With the development of genetic engineering, research in biotechnology grew spontaneously because of its implications to the future of organisms. New products and technologies were manufactured to address various biological complexities that exist in the environment.
DNA Technology is one of the most notable forms of Biotech. It involves sequencing, DNA cloning, and gel electrophoresis. Biotechnology has been used to create bizarre living organisms like Dolly the sheep. Dolly was the first animal to be cloned from another cell. This was a remarkable experiment that defied the limits of scientific inquiry. Biotech is revolutionizing the diagnosis of genetic diseases. Stem cell treatment, Gene therapy, and Nanomedicine have changed the lives of countless patients who were once victims of incurable diseases. Many other treatments and medical procedures stemmed out of this field such as In vitro fertilization (IVF), gene synthesis, DNA vaccine, and personalized medicine. As a result of all these innovations, life expectancy has increased leading to higher birth rates and lower death rates when compared to other millennials.
Biotech has transformed the agricultural industry. With the help of catalysts and organic compounds biotechnology aims to generate higher crop yields with lower inputs leading to greater harvests. Currently, researchers are using biotech to lower the volumes of agricultural chemicals like pesticides that pose a threat to the environment as well as the human body. Ever since the industrial revolution, factories and other manufacturing units have renovated and reorganized its operations to create more durable products that serve customers’ needs. Biotechnology has helped refine industrial processes through the discovery and production of biological enzymes leading to the incorporation of sustainable practices within such places.
The blue biotechnology industry is a new research program that integrates biotechnological processes to derive useful compounds from marine organisms. Scientists say that these bioactive compounds can be utilized to invigorate medical productions and develop resources for food stocks. This global blue biotechnology market estimates to reach almost $5 million by 2020. Such discoveries could have a profound impact on current societies.
